Dame Ellen Pinsent School

Head Teacher: Miss Denise Fountain

Welcome to the website of Dame Ellen Pinsent School, which will give you lots of information about the school and an appreciation for what the children experience at Dame Ellen Pinsent.

Dame Ellen Pinsent is located in the south of Birmingham and is a Primary Special School for cognition and learning. We cater for 150 children with a range of special educational needs; cognition and learning difficulties are the children’s primary needs, additional needs include speech and language and autistic spectrum condition.

It is an honour and a privilege to be the Head Teacher of such a wonderful school!

The vision for our school and children is:  Where children are happy; developing independence and confidence, so that they can be their very best.

We have a highly skilled, enthusiastic and committed team of staff who work with the children and their families to promote our vision: improving basic skills, independence, communication and social skills. We want our pupils to be confident, happy, lifelong learners and valued members and contributors to their community.  We believe a multi-disciplinary approach supports our children; as such we emphasise this approach and aim to work with parents, children and other professionals to make a positive difference.  Such other professionals that we work with include, school nurse, paediatrician, speech and language therapists, occupational therapists and physiotherapists.

Our curriculum is broad, balanced, exciting and challenging, built on research and knowledge to give our pupils' a quality experience that enriches their lives.  We have three curriculum pathways – Seedlings, Orchard and Woodlands (please visit our curriculum section of our website for more information).

All of our pathways are enhanced by our Forest School provision.  This status enhances our curriculum with an emphasis on learning in the outdoors, utilising our fantastic school grounds and using the local community to develop independence skills.  All classes are equipped with iPads and other hardware that supports our pupils experience and ensures they are familiar with the latest technology.

The children are encouraged to be involved in their own learning; they evaluate their own work through the use of words, pictures and symbols and they are keen to do well.  Their behaviour is exceptional and we are proud of how they support one another and develop as individuals.

If you would like to find out more about what we do, you can navigate around this website.  We also welcome visitors; please feel free to contact us for a visit.

We look forward to hearing from you!
