Dame Ellen Pinsent School’s RE curriculum follows the Birmingham Agreed Syllabus for RE. This is mainly taught through the Christian faith but will include all other faiths within the Birmingham community as well as secular life. It promotes the spiritual, moral, cultural, mental and physical development of pupils both at school and in society. It also links well to British values particularly mutual respect and tolerance of those with different faiths and beliefs. Pupils learn across both attainment targets; learning from faith and learning about religious traditions. There are 24 dispositions that are taught in both Key Stages (see RE Policy and Birmingham Agreed Syllabus for RE for more information). There are many natural links to the school’s PHSE and Citizenship curriculum and assembly themes.
You have the right for your child to opt out of RE lessons. Please discuss this with your class teacher.
Dame Ellen Pinsent School's RE overview for our new curriculum pathways can be downloaded at the bottom of this page.
Classes in upper school perform a class assembly each year focusing on a religious festival. The lower school classes join together for a Spring assembly. There is a whole school assembly calendar which is followed throughout the year. You have the right for your child to opt out of collective worship. Please discuss this with the class teacher.
