Otters

Welcome to Otters class page!

Summer 1

Our topic and focus in summer term 1 is food of Birmingham and the UK. Our learning will involve a number of areas split over the 7-week term. These areas include colour, shape, sweet food and foods from different cultures.  Each week, the children will work on their individual targets to help them develop in all areas of the Orchard curriculum. These areas include social communication, learning and problem-solving (maths and English), interest and play, independence and community and sensory processing and emotional regulation.

At the end of summer term 1, we will be hosting an Orchard pathway 'Lets Connect' event. This event will link to our topic of 'food in Birmingham and the UK' and will involve parents coming to the children's own 'Orchard Dining Club'.

Another exciting opportunity Orchard pathway has this term is that we have been selected to complete the 'Common Ground Arts Project'. The children in Otters class will have three days of working with artists to complete a piece of art to be displayed in an exhibition at MAC!

We will continue with swimming on a Wednesday Morning, PE on a Thursday Afternoon and Jo Jingle on a Monday afternoon.

Any other updates will be shared via Dojo!

Spring 2

Our new Topic for Spring 2 is Birmingham and The UK. Within this topic, we will look at developing the children's knowledge in a number of areas such as road safety, areas around the UK, Landmarks, cultures and our family and friends.

We will be working on our Physical Development on a Friday,  Jo jingles on a Monday afternoon and forest school on a Tuesday morning.

Over the term, we will follow the Orchard pathway, where we will look at different areas such as interest and play, learning and problem-solving, socia communication, sensory and emotional regulation and independence and community.

The children will follow the topic 'Birmingham and the UK' whilst developing and working on the following areas above.

Spring 1

Our New Topic for Spring Term 1 is ‘Snow White.’ We will be theming our learning weekly, to learn about different aspects of the story. The themes include: Emotions, Stranger Danger, Friendships and Differences.

Our learning will link to the themes to create an immersive learning environment. We will also have a live performance of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs by M&M productions.

We will have swimming on a Wednesday morning and PE every Friday morning. This half-term we will be focusing on gym.

Please keep checking our Class Dojo page for any updates or changes.

Autumn 2

Welcome to Autumn term. This half-term our topic is Victorian Christmas. We will be theming our learning weekly to learn about different aspects of Christmas, including the themes 'Christmas Tree', 'Queen Victoria' and 'Christmas Food'. Our learning will directly link to these themes to create an immersive learning environment involving all things Christmas! We will be working towards our whole school 'Let's Connect' event at the end of this half-term, which will be a Victorian Christmas Fayre!

Our different days:

Monday - Forest School with Andrina

Tuesday - PE

Wednesday - Swimming with Miss Guest

Friday - PE

Autumn 1

Welcome to Otters class. We are a class of 7 children and we follow the Orchard pathway.

Mrs MacLean is our class teacher on Tuesday, Wednesday PM, Thursday and Friday.

Miss Guest teaches our class on a Wednesday morning, which is swimming.

Andrina will teach us on a Monday and will be taking us to Forest school on a Friday morning.

Our wonderful teaching assistants are Gabby, Linda and Nadra.

This half term we will spend the first 2 weeks getting to know each other and our new environment and making new friends and relationships. For the remainder of the half term our topic is ‘Painters’. We will explore this topic in many different ways - we will be painting using different tolls, recognising colours, mixing colours and many more exciting activities. We will take a very practical and sensory approach to our topic, and will probably get a bit messy! We are working towards a whole school goal of creating an art gallery as part of our Let's connect week. We will be creating our own piece of art that will be displayed as part of the whole school gallery. We will spend half term practising our painting skills and developing our knowledge of colours that will help us create out final piece of art.

You can find our timetable by clicking on the link to the left.

We will share what we have been up to on our class dojo page each day so please join us there!
