The aim of this unit is to:

Develop contextual knowledge of the location of globally significant places, both terrestrial and marine

Understand the processes that give rise to key physical and human geographical features of the world (e.g. formation of the pyramids, desserts, destruction of landmarks over time, weather)

Help children to develop knowledge about the world

Help children begin to name, locate and identify characteristics of significant countries in the world

Help children to understand geographical similarities and differences through studying another country compared to our own

Help children to identify seasonal and daily weather patterns in another country

Enable children to use world maps, atlases and globes to identify another country/continent and its surrounding seas

Allow children to use basic geographical vocabulary such as city, river, hill, mountain, sea season, weather, town, village, shop, factory, farm, office, port, desert, building, structure, market
