Our topic this half term is going to be 'Jack and the Beanstalk' which is a performing arts topic. We are going to be visited by M&M Theatre Company who are going to perform a pantomime for us! We will also plant our own beans to watch how they grow and will discuss what plants need to thrive and how we can look after them. We will also explore different fairytales and the characters in them; we will look at how we can describe them and will create our own fairytale scenes. We are going to explore counting beans and looking at tall and short beanstalks.

We will now have PE on a Tuesday morning and will continue with Jo Jingles on a Friday afternoon.

Keep looking at our Class Dojo page for daily updates on what we have been doing.

Our topic for this half term is going to be 'Winter Wonderland'. This is a Design & Technology topic where we will be designing, making and evaluating a product that we will then sell at our Let's Connect event - a Winter Wonderland market! We will be theming our learning each week, covering topics such as Winter weather, Christmas trees, Christmas traditions and religious aspects of Christmas.

We will continue to have PE on a Friday morning and swimming on a Wednesday morning. We will also enjoy Jo Jingles on a Friday afternoon.

Keep an eye on dojo for daily updates on what we get up to!

We have really enjoyed our Winter Wonderland topic. We have learnt about the cold weather and engaged in sensory activities with ice and requested different flavoured ice cream using our PECS. We have looked at Christmas traditions such as decorating trees and singing Christmas songs and carols. We have sang lots of different Christmas songs in our weekly Jo Jingles music sessions. We even got lucky enough to experience real snow! We loved being outside and exploring the snow - look at the pictures below to see how much fun we had!

Autumn 1

This half term we will spend the first 2 weeks getting to know each other and our new environment and making new friends and relationships. For the remainder of the half term, our topic is 'Pottery & Sculpture'. We will be focusing our learning around the book 'Play with Clay'. Each week we will explore a different action you can do with clay, such as roll. We will be finishing the half term with a Let's Connect event - we will create a piece of pottery that will be displayed in a whole school art gallery.

Woodpeckers will have PE on a Friday morning and Jo Jingles on a Friday afternoon. We will also have Forest School with Dean on a Tuesday morning. Miss Guest will teach Woodpeckers on a Thursday morning while Miss Cheatle is out of class.

We have worked really hard this half term on the skills that we need to manipulate and model with clay. We have worked on rolling using our hands and a rolling pin, squeezing, pinching and using cutters to make different shapes. We have grown in confidence and independence with these skills and have made lots of beautiful pieces for our whole school art gallery. We have communicated which colours we wanted to paint our pieces with too. We have settled well into Woodpeckers class and are looking forward to the new half term and new topic!
