Welcome new Bumblebees' class! 

                                                   

Welcome to Bumblebees class. We are a class of 13 children and we follow the Woodlands pathway.

Mrs Tombs is our class teacher and our wonderful teaching assistants are Marie, and Dawn.

Spring 1

 

 

Our topic this half-term will be on the performing arts. Our focus will be the story of Jack and the Beanstalk. We will also look at a variety of other fairytales. 

In English, we will be looking at fairy tales, short stories, script writing and much more. In maths, we will continue to learn about number and place value, addition and subtraction as well as a new topic in SSM which is Measure. In science, we will be learning about plants and habitats, where we will be having a go at planting our own beanstalk and keeping a diary about our plant :) This will have many cross-curricular links to our focus story of Jack and the Beanstalk and Measure in SSM. In PSHE we will be learning about looking after our environment and in PE we will begin a new topic of Dance. We will be looking at movements and sequencing to music. We will also be having our own music sessions and looking at a song relating to Jack and the Beanstalk and what fun we can have with it as a class!! In computing, we will be learning about digital literacy, including the use of puppet Pals. We also have the M&M theatre company coming to give us a wonderful performance of Jack and the Beanstalk for all the children! Lots of exciting things to look out for this half-term!!! 

Autumn 2

Our topic for the next half term is called Winter Wonderland and will have a focus on Design & Technology. The children will design, evaluate and improve items to make and sell at the whole school Christmas market in the last week of Autumn 2. Our designs are currently top secret ... we don't want our competitors to steal our ideas!!

In Maths, we will be learning to recognise coins so please let your children experience handling and recognising coins such as 1p, 2p, 5p and 10p. You could also take your child to a local shop and support them to buy a sweet with coins.

Autumn 1 Summary.

What a busy half-term we have had! The children have settled well into life in Bumblebees and have made good progress with their behaviour for learning. 

Our cross-curricular learning has been based around Gaudi's colourful houses. We have made houses with a variety of materials, such as paper, plastic, cardboard, playdough and clay, which are linked very well to our science work on materials. We have also been working very hard making our salamanders for display at the art gallery. Come along on Parent's Evening to see the fabulous pottery sculptures the children have produced!

 

 

 

We have had the pleasure of swimming all this half term and will continue in Autumn 2 too! The children have made excellent progress and are really enjoying the experience.

Autumn 1

This half-term we will spend the first 2 weeks getting to know each other and our new environment and making new friends and relationships. For the remainder of the half-term our topic is ‘Pottery & Sculpture’ and we will be focusing upon the famous artist Gaudi and his colourful houses in Barcelona. This will lead on to designing and labelling houses and then progressing to descriptive writing such as colour and adjectives.

The end of our 'Pottery & Sculpture' topic will result in a colourful whole school art gallery. This was a great success last year, so we can't wait to see the work that the children will produce!
