Dame Ellen Pinsent School

Welcome

Head Teacher: Miss Denise Fountain

Welcome to the website of Dame Ellen Pinsent School, which will give you lots of information about the school and an appreciation for what the children experience at Dame Ellen Pinsent.

Dame Ellen Pinsent is located in the south of Birmingham and is a Primary Special School for cognition and learning. We have 152 pupils on roll with a range of special educational needs, including autistic spectrum condition, speech and language and moderate to severe learning difficulties.

It is an honour and a privilege to be the Head Teacher of such a wonderful school!

We have a highly skilled, enthusiastic and committed team of staff who work with the children and their families to promote improvements in basic skills, independence, communication and social skills. We want our pupils to be lifelong learners and valued members and contributors to their community.  We believe a multi-disciplinary approach supports our children; this is a high quality feature of our work 'we aim to work with parents, children and other professionals to make a positive difference'.  Such other professionals that we work with include, school nurse, paediatrician, speech and language therapists and physiotherapists.

Our curriculum is exciting and challenging, built on many years of development to give our pupils' a quality experience that enriches their lives.  Our Forest School status also enriches our curriculum, within this there is an emphasis on learning in the outdoors utilising our fantastic school grounds and using the local community to develop independence skills.   The Regional Training Centre status with Apple has also enhanced our curriculum, ensuring our pupils experience and are familiar with the latest technology.

The children are encouraged to be involved in their own learning; they evaluate their own work through the use of words, pictures and symbols and they are keen to do well.  Their behaviour is exceptional and we are proud of how they support one another and develop as individuals.

If you would like to find out more about what we do, you can navigate around this website.  We also welcome visitors; please feel free to contact us for a visit.  We look forward to hearing from you!
