PE & Sports Premium
Primary PE & Sports Premium...
The Government introduced a Sports Premium Grant for schools in September 2013. The PE and sport premium is designed to help primary schools improve the quality of the PE and sport activities they offer their pupils. This funding is currently worth £150 million a year and is being jointly provided from The Department of Education, The Department of Health and The Department for culture, media and sport.
The Purpose of the Funding...
Schools must spend their money on improving their provision of PE and Sport, but they have the freedom to choose how best to do this;
A table that shows how Dame Ellen have chosen to spend their allocated money and the impact that this is having can be found in a file at the bottom of this page.
The funding should highlight an increase in participation, standards, attainment, and progress of pupils. Additionally, it should encourage pupils to develop healthy lifestyles and support children in reaching performance levels that they are capable of. Dame Ellen uses their Sports Premium Funding to be part of the Bishop Challoner School Sports Partnership and has done for the past two years. All members of staff and pupils have worked with PE expert, Michael Hayden who is Head of Special Education Needs in PE at Bishop Challoner Secondary School. He has worked with teachers to improve their confidence and abilities in the teaching of PE. This year Michael is working with us again to further develop our skills as teachers of PE to ensure that we are meeting the developing needs of our individual children.
He works with each class in half-term blocks over the year to help teachers understand what outstanding PE lessons look like and to develop teachers subject knowledge and passion for the subject.
The children all have great fun in their lessons…
